Home Automation. If George Jetson can afford it, why can’t you?

By | October 16, 2011

Isn’t it amazing to be driving down the street while your car talks to you giving you point-by-point directions, or be calling home after work about about being stuck in traffic, while you are stuck in traffic.  Let’s face it folks, we are living in the future right now.

The futuristic middle-class home that George Jetson lived in is also a reality.  Home automation has made leaps and bounds in just a few short years.  With the integration of basic home computer networks with today’s audio video and home automation products, you might be amazed at what you can control in your home already with just your existing smart phone or iPod.

For example, we carry a wireless whole house audio system called SONOS (www.sonos.com).  For under $500, and using your existing sound system we can add speakers to another area of your home and give you full access and control of your entire music collection, including volume control, play, pause, and mute with a free app on your smart-phone or iDevice (iPod, iPhone, or iPad).

Imagine sitting on your back porch listening to the music of your choice without having to worry about getting out of your seat to adjust volume levels or changing music selection.

What about adding speakers to your bedroom and waking up to the music selection of your choice every morning, instead of the only radio station you get on your tinny bedside clock radio.  It is amazing technology and it is right at your fingertips.

Other easy-to-add home automation that you may already have available to you might be lighting control.  Imagine pressing a single button to turn all the lights in your house off or to a certain light level at night, or when leaving the house.  Set timers using your PC, smart phone or iDevice to make lights turn on and off while you are not home for better security.  All this can be done using the existing wiring in your home.  The Pulseworx Lighting Systems that we recommend and use are simply dimmer switches that replace your current light switches and communicate right over the existing electrical wiring of your home (www.pulseworx.com).

Now imagine controlling your security system, heating or air conditioning, or viewing inexpensive, web-based security cameras on your property from your phone or any internet connected computer.  All this home automation technology and more are possible, and for for far less than you would ever imagine.  In fact, if you have an iPod or a computer at home you are already part way there.

Affordable home automation is not something that will happen in the future, it is happening now.  Whether you are building a new home, or want to control and monitor expenses, or for the sheer convenience, home automation is a reality today.

Our primary home automation system is a product called g! by Elan Home Systems (www.elanhomesystems.com).  Basically if you want to control it, we can make it happen with a g! System.

If you have a large or small home or business that you have been considering automating, or if the idea of automated systems control is something that interests you were it more affordable, then give us a call.  We would be glad to come out for a free consultation and make some recommendations.

Thanks for your interest.
